Bonelli Park - #BonelliPark
Socal - Los Angeles County - San Dimas NickNames: #BonelliPark
1) Take Interstate 210 (Foothill Frwy) to Via Verde Drive (Raging Waters Drive). Go east to Bonelli Park. You can pay $6.00 to enter the park or just west of the 210 Frwy on Via Verde Drive is a park and ride lot.
2) An easy way to get into the park without having to pay for parking is to go to the south side of Brackett Airport (using Mckinley Ave.) and park at the airport administration building parking lot. Near the parking lot is a road with a metal gate leading up a small hill. Just go around the gate and follow the road to another gate. (While on this little stretch, there are little trails to the left which I have not yet taken). Once past this second gate is a trailer park to the left and a dirt trail to the right. Take the dirt trail and you'll end up in the park. Once inside, choose your own path or trail to ride on! Thomas Guide page 600

- Trail UpdateBonelli Park-Rode various fireroad, and single track trails this past thursday. I had not been here before so didn't know what trail I was on. Pretty mellow trails, but good for training. Not a destination, but it's close enough that I will be back.

- Trail UpdateMarch 2007 Ride-No rain so it's great. Trail is not too dry and not too soft. It's fun for a quick spin within the SGV/Inland Empire areas.
Newbies can scale this and sweat like a carabao (noypi to-ets, 'no).
It's a trail for stage-race, too, I guess, since there's one (XC race) coming up on March 25th.
There's lots of riders, hikers, and horseback riders, esp. during the weekends, so be extra careful out there.

- Trail UpdateMUDDY!!-Went ridin at Bonelli right after a rain last week and it started off fun...a little mud making each climb and trail a bit more difficult. Next thing I know I can't pedal and I have mud caked up everywhere! My buddy and I ended up walking our bikes out until we reached the blacktop. Felt like a little kid again!! Don't ride after it rains! Wait until it dries up, maybe a day...doesn't take long!

- Trail UpdateBonelli... Fire Roads...-Decided to spend lunch today riding the fireroads of Bonelli, tried to park at the Via Verde park-n-ride, but it was packed so I parked across the street. Anyway dropped in on the right side which turns into the Middlecrest trail and you follow that and you run back into Via Verde on the east side of the park. The trail was smooth like it's just been graded, but there were some rocky sections which were kind of fun pretending they were jumps. Anyway when I got to Via Verde I just rode it backwards and it's still a great ride. Beautiful day, can't beat So. Cal. weather in the middle of January! Awesome day! Where's lunch...

- Trail UpdateBonelli BBQ-A brush fire the other day took out quite a bit of the southwest corner of the park. The area just south of Via Verde and east of the 57 Fwy burned, probably about a mile or so east. We took the fireroad up to the singletrack that parallels Via Verde; it was burned about halfway to the maintenance station. We didn't ride up, but it looks like it burned up by the heliport and somewhat further east. In spite of this, we still had a great ride. Most of the trails are in good shape and the downhills are all packing down nicely: Lakeview downhill (by the abandoned tractor),and the Treeline Trail are a blast. The Rocky Trail is is quite different after all the rain, but I finally found decent line and didn't eat it this time.

- Trail Update24 Hours Of LA @ Bonelli-Team Big Bear orgainzed a great race! The trail conditions were a little sloppy and not too technical, but the mud bogs on the east shore sure made things interesting. On one of my night laps, I buried my front wheel past the top of the rotor in the mudpit just before the Corkscrew. As I dismounted, both feet sunk halfway to my knees. So much for picking a good line (I apologized to Mr Bonk for giving him the bad advice....I think he got stuck there too!). At least I was able to get out of that mess without losing my shoes in the process; it sure would have been a long 4 miles back without them.
It was a blast racing along with Mr Bonk, Mr You, Flying W, Superjoe and Patrick (also Gordon from Santa Maria and Upchuck).

- Trail UpdateGood Luck-to you 24 hour madmen! Watch the top of rocky hill - group of 10 this week had 3 flats between us when we got to the restrooms at the top of the hill. The rain made it more technical, but the back of the track - near the 57/10 junction, is some pretty thick shit. The clay on the back side really screws up your tires & pedals. Also, the water crossings are as deep as I've seen them - bring a snorkel!

It is now loose and soft all the way around. The high speed stuff at the
begining (clockwise direction) is sketchy to say the least and should be
nice and dusty for the 24 hour race there this November. Once it rains
it will all pack down nicely but until then yuch. With the bull dozers
having doen their worst the trail is wide open and all the brush is well
back off the trail/road. The remaining singletrak is still intack and in
very good shape. At this time of year the water crossing is very low and
the back side swamp is a dry.

- Trail UpdateIn Re Henry And Post # 17-Top of the mornin' to ya fellas... with regards to the trail north of the equestrian center behind the closed bathrooms: no I have not done that particular trail, I believe the one I have done is the "rocky trail" I think the one you fellas are talking about is the "corkscrew" trail. Unfortunately it's been to hot to do my "lunchtime" rides so I have been going after work to CWL/Marshall Canyon/Potato Mtn. so when it starts to cool off I will definitely have to check out the corkscrew and see what it's all about.
So we got a 24-hr. thing comin' up huh? Anybody got a linky on that one? How 'bout the Mt.Sac one? I have to admit I am a tad interested... I have never raced before, but hey there's a first for everything... right?!

I could race for about 1 ½ hour on Sunday at Mt SAC, which is about 2.5 miles from Puddingstone to anyone complaining about “appropriate trailheads”, possibly win a very nice hand made trophy, drink some beers, have a bbq with some friends and Monday go to work feeling refreshed.
Or, I could Sign up for a 24 hour race I haven’t heard or read about, and if it’s a sanctioned event, pay over $100 bucks, get a sever case of monkey butt, sleep deprivation, and several days to recover. But if it rains, the southwest side in particular will quickly become unrideable. Much of the area from the front of the dam, south to Via Verde, is clay, the kind that sticks like glue and will add 50lbs to your bike in no time.

- Trail UpdateC'mon People!-You are absolutely correct on the line of vision thing. Thank you very much. When I posted to Diane, I was being general in my description. Only she knows her abilities, and from reading her previous posts she seems pretty adept at her riding skills. I find myself to be a very responsible rider. I do not race. I ride as fast as I safely can. If you are a smart person you will know exactly what I mean. Key word "safely". When coming up to a horse, I dismount and start walking. I believe that you are just trying to get a rise out of all the kind people on this site. We are all just having fun. I wonder why you will not post your name or something. Let us all know who you are. Diane, have a great time. I hope you have tried that area. One day we'll meet up there and "race" down that hill!!!

- Trail Update"let Go Of The Brakes"-to the person who responded in #3: the section that Henry is talking about, you have very good line of vision. If riders are racing down this section they have plenty of time to slow down/dismount if another rider, of any sort is coming up. About the person who died, has anyone actually talked to people who run the horse stables? I usually run into the young, blonde girl who leads group rides, I'll ask her next time I see her.

- Trail UpdateTire Tracks?-if your said dead person would have worn a helmet, it wouldn't be an issue.
No amount of patrol on a trail can protect idiots from not protecting themselves, and how about looking down once in a while, you'll see a ton of bike tracks. That's usually and indicator that bikes use that trail as well. DUMB@SSPosted:09/17/2004

- Trail UpdateThere is a posting on August 9 which quotes "Henry"'s advice to "Diane"--"To Diane - Have you been to through the two downhill sections on the north side of the closed bathroom that is above the equestrian area? The one on the left is really nice, short but nice. The one that you'd take if you go straight is really fun, just pray, let go of the brakes, pick a line and boogie. Thats what I've tried anyway".
This clearly shows that some bicyclists are racing on the trails, which is evident with the phrase, "let go of the brakes".
As for the ranger denying that a fatal accident occured, there is good reason to try and igonore that situation on those trails. Up till now, there hasn't been a problem and the County implied consent of bicylist use of the trails.
There should be patrols on the trails; either the LA County Police or the Mounted Equestrian patrol. From what I understand of the situation out at Bonnelli, no one is patroling the trail. The trail is clearly marked for equestrian use, which is what the decease relied on. There is no evidence that the trail is to be used by bicyclists.Posted:09/16/2004

Apparently, the bicyclist came racing down the hill and scared the horse. The rider was thrown from the horse and has been in a coma since. Please be aware of the fact that horses are easily scared by racing bikes.

- Trail UpdateFrank G. Bonelli Regional Park-Rode on Tuesday, did the Upper Bee Hive Trail to the Walnut Trail and then I think we connected to the North Shore Trail and wrapped around some trail my buddies and I call the "deliverance" trail, you got to see it to understand it... it's like a mini jungle it's really cool to ride through and then we cut through the campground rode around the to the south side of the lake and back to the Via Verde Park-n-ride. All in all it was a good ride, a couple of days later I went back & did the either the Corkscrew or Rocky trail... I think it was the Rocky trail because it was all rock, pretty cool. Anyway it was all good.

- Trail UpdateBonelli...-Hey Henry... no actually I have not done that section in a while... last time I did it, it was pretty rutted out, but I think I will have to revisit it now you have my curiosity up and running! Actually today my co-worker and I rode the 57/210 trail called the Upper Bee Hive Trail and it was in pretty good condition for summer anyway. It was pretty loose in some sections, but do-able. We did the long way around and did a trail we call the "Deliverance" trail but technically it is called the North Shore Trail I think?? It is kind of a trippy trail through some jungle like scenery... pretty cool though. Anyway it was a good ride. Happy Trails to all... :)

The one on the left is really nice, short but nice. The one that you'd take if you go straight is really fun, just pray, let go of the brakes, pick a line and boogie. Thats what I've tried anyway, it didnt work. Incycle has a map of the park on their website. But just experiment. We go there often, we where there tonight. - Trail UpdateLunch...-Last week for lunch I decided to check out the trails. So Tuesday I decide to go easy so I do the Middlecrest Trail around the reservoir all the way up to Via Verde. Stop for a power gel and backtrack the exact same path... great ride.
Wednesday a couple fellow co-workers/bikers all decide to do the Coyote Trail that follows the 10fwy. and that trail is really, really rocky. It needs help in a major way. That trail is only 1.6 miles on the map, but it will kick your butt! By the time we got to Via Verde we all thought we were gonna have a heart attack!
Thursday did the same as Tuesday... the Middlecrest Trail is just really well maintained. Unfortunately the heat is just killer mid-day! Might have to do night rides instead of lunch time rides!!
Hey if anyone has been up on any other trails I would love to hear about it. Especially the Bee Hive trails or the north side trails. Thanks!

- Trail UpdateGreat Ride-Went for a ride this morning at Bonelli. my first time up there. the trail was excellent with very little loose dirt. the rock trail is downhill just enough to give you momentum to sort of fly over the rough stuff and at the same time technical enough to make it a real blast. I will definelty be back next week. on the north side of the trail there is about a 2 mile stretch with trees overhanging almost the entire way. that was good because the exposed spots will let the sun beat down on you with no mercy. I was very impressed with the ride

Everything was pretty clean as far as from the rains. The only thing to say is if you do the tree line trail up the second and the last steep it's really rocky and not looking too good. My theory on the mud hole below the helipad is a possible fracture in the small reservoir that's on top of the hill. That mud hole appeared around six month ago.

Tonight was good though. Lots of traction everywhere. Glad to here you turn left. I see most people going the opposite way. Have you done Bush hill? That's the one that will bring you down to the switchbacks. It's deffinately a hike a bike at the top, but worth it.
Had another trail encounter with an animal. I followed a shunk up MF #1. Had to stay about 100 feet behind him. Darn critter wouldn't get off the trail until the very top. At least he didn't spray me.

- Trail UpdateNice Thursday Evening Ride...-Parked at the Via Verde Park-n-ride started to the right around the reservoir, did Middlecrest Trail went up to Via Verde road... all that part of the trail was ok, not affected too badly by the rains. Continued up Via Verde, rode up past the hottubs, veered off to the right and I think I did either Corkscrew Trail or Rocky Trail... I think it was Rocky Trail because it was haneous! All rock and crevasse, kinda technical. Then after that obstacle course I proceeded to I guess McKinley Drive, road around the airport saw a couple of older gents... waved hello one was riding a Mongoose... couldn't see what the other was riding. Anyway did the single track on the north side I think it may have been the North Shore Trail which was cool & dry.. no worries there. When I was coming back to the park-n-ride I could see where parts of Upper Bee Hive Trail (left side) were flooded... that's gonna take a while to dry. Happy trails to all & watch out for the mud puddles... they'll kick your @$$!!

Co-workers & I rode on Friday at lunch from the Via Verde park-n-ride. We did the (left) Upper Bee Hive Trail, Walnut Trail and up the switchbacks to the road and took the road back to Via Verde to the park-n-ride, it was a short but good haul. Some parts of the Upper Bee Hive trail were a little sandy & soft... bee careful... no pun intended... ok maybe a little!! :) Walnut Trail towards the end is a little rutted and rocky, but manageable... just don't get too close to the cactus growing out of control from the side of the hills. - Trail UpdateSunset Ridge-I park on Wheeler just below the private entrance and go through the walk-up gate. It wasn’t locked before. Ride up to the fire road and the push begins. Go to the top of Sunset Ridge then down to the parking lot-vista point. Take the asphalt down towards Baldy Village then make a right. Go down Baldy road to the dirt road that takes to the beginning of the sisters at Potato Mt. Once you’re on Potato go down to where it hits Cobalt loop then turn right. From there work your way down Marshall Cyn all the way to the reservoir out onto the residential area turn right then back to Wheeler. Did you get that? It’s a long ride, anyone interested?

Pain Freak from The 909Posted:01/21/2004
- Trail UpdateDawn--You're right about the gate. You have to wait for a car to come out of the gate if you go up that way. It usually doesn't take too long. Then stay left and go all the way up Wheeler. The road dead ends and the fireroad starts on the right. It's a long grind and before the rain was kind of soft. It puts you out at Cow Canyon Saddle/ Glendora Ridge Road. I prefer riding up Baldy road, turn onto GRR and going down the fire road and there is a pedestrian gate at the end that is always unlocked from the inside. Going that way still includes about a 5 mile climb on dirt though most of the climb is on pavement. It's not technical but some places are sandy. Haven't been up since the Christmas rain so I don't know if places are washed out.
Check out Cow Canyon Saddle and Wheeler Ave. under the trailheads section.

I have always wanted to try it but I can't get into the gate! Is is a technical ride? I am not a very good tech rider but I love riding up hills! Also, where is the beheaded bear? You can legally access Potato from Evey canyon---go up Baldy road till the dam. You'll see the turnout and gate on the left. Evey canyon has a lot of slides though so if you're not a really good technical rider you will probably need to do some hiking. Marshall cayon and Johnson's pasture/Webb is all open.

- Trail UpdateYo D! --CWL is open. We rode Potato last month and it's spooky now because it's all burnt black and totally quiet. But that hasn't stopped the climb from being brutal.
I'm going to a race this weekend so I'm out but next weekend sounds good. I'll see if Carlton wants to go too. Email me if you decide to go.
Bush Hill. You start at the entrance to Bonelli Park and go under the tunnel. Take the trail until you hit the downhill with all the catus on the left. At the bottom you can turn right and go up a series of switchbacks to the road. Turn left and go up the FR for about 100 yards. You'll see a path that goes off the side of the road. Take that and you'll hit Bush Hill. It's a narly uphill at about a 75 degree incline.
We call it Bush Hill because there's a lone green bush about halfway up. For a long time that was my goal mark, but with the traction the way it is now, I can make it past it. Deffinately a hike a bike for the last 1/3 of the climb. The downhill side takes you back to the switchbacks I mentioned. Great view of the 210 FWay from the top.

After the third incline, a single track located to the right of the trail will lead you down a 50 yard descent consisting of exposed tree roots and small area of exposed rock. RE: Promise. Don't sweat it. I just got new brakes. Good thing too. Had to lock em up today to avoid 3 women walking 2 dogs in the middle of a race course. And for those of you that think I purposely terrorize people and animals on the trails, I missed all of them, and didn't even cuss.

- Trail UpdateThx Rayzorx! Re: Adventure Race-Thanks again for the details! In fact, we did have to hike up that one single track trail (Bush Hill?). The park was awesome. It was only a 11.5 mile bike ride in this race, but I swear about 90% was uphill. And especially riding at night and watching out for those rocks were pretty challenging, but a lot of fun. This was the last race for the Balance Bar Sprint series for 2003. http://www.balancebarsprint.com/ . This race was originally supposed to be at Castaic Lake, but got moved to Bonelli about a month before since Castaic is no longer open to the public. I don't think there will be a night race in LA for next year, but if it's at Bonelli, I think I will definitely do it again. ;-)

Oh no, Rayzorx, you should be more careful.
Another time in Bonelli Park I was riding my bike when these God forsaken foreigners get in my way and one of them jumps right in front of me to retrieve their sandal.
Oh no, Rayzorx, you should slow down for the foreigners.

- Trail UpdateSmokey Trails-I did a ride early Monday morning at the park. Went about 8 miles and decided that there was too much smoke in the air, so I short cut my ride and came back through the park. In the area just inside the entrance to Bonelli the road was lined with firetrucks on both sides, and several parking lots were full of them. there had to be at least 75 trucks altogether.
There had a makeshift headquarters/mess hall set up under a big tent in the picnic area and were getting ready to serve breakfast. (This was about 5:15AM)
I got to hand it to the fire fighters. They're doing a hell of a job in hell like conditions.

- Trail UpdateRE: Fermina - I'm not sure what parts of the trails are included in your race but here's a rundown on some of the ones I do.
Dragons' Back: The trail that climbs up from Bracket Airport, is nothing but rocks. There's a rut down the middle on some of it so you'll be navigating from left to right. The left side can be challeging because it's off-camber. Going down the other side to the horse barn has some rocks but you can usually see them ahead of time, and they make nice jumps.
MF#1: We enter this hill from the cattle corrals. The first part is packed OK, but once you take the right turn half way up, you'll start hitting rocks. At the top you'll traverse a kind of rollercoster trail, again, littered with rocks. Watch out for the cactus on the right.
MF#2: This hill is on the 10 Frwy side of the hills. You reach it via the fire roads starting from the second guard station. The bottom is very loose and there are a lot of loose rocks the size of softballs all the way up. There's actually about 8 less rocks since I stumbled on some last night and chucked them over the side in a fit.
Forgotten Road: If you drop in by the entrance to Bonelli Park and make the left turn through the tunnel, you'll go down hill and then up a section of what used to be an old black top road. This makes a sharp right onto a section of fire roads on the 210 Frwy side. Most of the uphills are loose dirt. There is a couple of downhills that are really loose and sandy. Be ready to brake and slide. Eventually you'll come to a switchback downhill that's really loose at the turn. The rest of the downhill is off camber and has cactus on the left. From here you can go right, up some switchbacks to the RagingWaters parking area, or go left up a dirt road. You will see a trail cut in on the side. This takes you to Bush Hill. I don't think it's humanly possible to climb this hill. I have made it as far as the bush, but you'll have to hike your bike up on your back the rest of the way.
Good luck with your race. It sounds like fun. Who's putting it on anyway?

It was really soft & sandy after the wooden bridge but everything else was ok. I took the time and marked my trail on a jpg (mapquest -see link), and would like to know if everyone else takes the same route. I parked at Lowes right off of the 210 and Arrow Hwy. This way I could get a couple more miles and some warm up time.

If not, then it is just something that over-reaction boy needs to just suck up and live with. If not, he should just suck it up anyway. It's a multi-use trail. Not a multi-use and everyone should be prepared for a biker trail. I had the same thing happen with a dog yesterday at Cheeseboro. I did not hit the dog. I slowed down, looked at how happy the dog was to be outside, which by the way was as happy as I was to be outside, and passed the dog without incident. That is the reason we are all on the trail anyway. To enjoy the outdoors. - Trail UpdateHey Attitude Boy-Doesn’t sound to me like anyone thinks they own the whole trail.
Yea, It pisses me off when I'm crunching up hill and a stray dog wanders in my way. The owners of the dogs should be more courteous to others. It doesn’t happen all the time, and when it does, I just shake it off.
And what the hell are people doing wading in that aviation fuel saturated scummy gutter water. Sounds to me like the person jumping in front of the cyclist absorbed way too much of the carcinogens emanating from that slow moving swamp.
Anyways, happy trails. I'm out-Carlton a 41 year old Cross-Country Rider riding a Specialized S Works M5 hard tail from Walnut

- Trail UpdateRe: Cannondaledawn-Thanks CDDawn, that's what I'm talking about. We ride at Clairmont on the weekends sometimes but mostly Puddingstone during the week. Suprised I haven't seen you. You're right, the trails at Clairmont do get crowded with hikers and dogs on the weekends. Definitely have to be careful around blind turns.
Maybe people like no name poster should read more carefully. It seems that some people are so quick to give you the Dad Lecture. I never said I ran over a dog and I don't think I own the trails either. I merely related some experiences I"ve had on the trail. I try to be courteous to others. Sometimes
it works, sometimes it doesn't.

- Trail UpdateRE: Rayzorx-I think you are right, Rayzorx. I ride this trail, Marshall Canyon, and Claremont 3-4 times a week. The trend of not keeping dogs on a lease is getting out of hand. It is very annoying, especially when you are humping it up a hill! It is not a matter of the mountain bikers being rude, but a matter of irresponsible owners as well as a matter of safety for the dogs and the riders. It is not unusual to get up to speeds of 25+ comming down the hills, and that is without even trying. It would not take much for a mountain biker coming around a corner to hit a loose dog or go over the side of the mountain trying to avoid the dog. I am not a fast rider and I have problems with hikers and loose dogs at least once per week. I am not rude to them and I give them ample warning when I am approaching them from the back. True, this is a multi-use trail but not only do the bikers need to be courteous, but the hikers need to respect bikers as well, and that is not happening. So, Rayzorx, I understand where you are coming from and from your description of the incidents, I don't think you did anything wrong.

- Trail UpdateAttitude Is Everything...-I can't remember the last time I had a conflict with another trail user, regardless of who might be 'at fault.' Equestrians and hikers never seem to yell at me, and I don't run over anyones animals or sandals. Not everyone is happy to see me, but I don't give any unhappy souls any ammo against me, either. Maybe Razoryx is not at fault, but his postings read like '...in less than a week, two different groups of people on the trail have gotten in my way. First, some stupid off leash dog got in my way, so I ran it over. Then, some idiots from another country we're swimming in that horrible water. So once I got them to comprende that I was coming through, I was gonna run over their sandals when one of em got in my way. What idiots.' Sounds to me like someone thinks they own the trail, and everything you have said in your 'defense' has only furthered that impression.
Posted:10/01/2003
- Trail UpdateRE: Gil-You're right Gil, the dog isn't stupid. His owners are. They're humans and should know this is a multi-use trail, and should have their dog on a leash (not lease).
I've been bitten before, so I don't stop for any animals, especially when I'm humping it up a hill. Do you hit your brakes for every rabbit that darts out in front of you? I don't think so.As for the sandals, let's get the facts straight. I slowed to the point of balancing on my pedals while trying get the people to understand that I wanted to go through. Once they did, they moved out of the way to let me through. At the last minute, the lady dove for the sandals. I'm not going over the bars just because someone makes a stupid decision. And for the record, I didn't hit the sandals or the lady. Again, these were humans who should know that they're in the middle of a multi use trail. The hundreds of bicycle tracks around them should have been a clear sign of that, plus the fact that two other bikers had just come through there from the other direction.
I used to wonder why no one has posted to this trail since April, and now I know. As soon as someone puts something up here, bleeding hearts like you start preaching on how we're supposed to be courteous to others and mindfull about this being a multi use trail. Well I try to be courteous to others. I stop for horses, I call out to hikers, and I don't try to terrorize anyone on the trail. I just try to get a good workout in and better my performance. As a "racer" you Gil, should understand that.
I am tired of getting cussed at by horse riders when I stop for them, and having to ride through their horse crap. And I'm tired of the hikers that don't understand what "biker right" means and I have to stop because they all scatter right in front of me. If you guys want to preach about proper trail etiquette, go preach to all the other people using the trail. Maybe if the resonsibility was shared by everyone, we could all be happy.

- Trail UpdateTrail Hazzards - Part 2-Ok, so I'm out last Thursday eve, doing the loop, and I'm coming to the creek crossing before the Nam jungle. As I'm decending to the water, there's about 8 ESL's wading in that scummy creek. I yell several times "Biker crossing" (in English) and I get the deer in the headlights stare.
They finally realize that I'm coming through, and move aside (still standing in the water), and just as I get to the point where I have to set up for the crossing, one female realizes I'm going to run over their sandals, and makes a dive for them, just a foot from my front wheel. Not wanting to take a bath in that liquid crap, I pedal harder, just miss her head, and launched across the water. Man I hate the smell of that creek.

I wasn't going to stop and I figured the dog would. Wrong. The stupid dog runs head first right into my front wheel. Duhhh. It didn't take me down but geezzzze people, control your animals.Anyway, it was a good ride. Actually came across someone running down MF #2 on the 10 freeway side.

- Trail UpdateTactics And Strategy-TomC, may I suggest that you contact the admin staff at the park before taking your complaint to the director? It may be that the work is scheduled and they're waiting on the heavy equipment to be available, or that a volunteer group that adopted the trail is going to affect repairs, or that the work was postponed due to the presence of sensitive wildlife, or that a private contractor got in there and made a mess without the maintenance personnel's knowledge, or...
Don't jump to conclusions, and don't assume that calling the director will get you what you want any faster. It's disrespectful to the people working in the park to immediately assume that the way to "get things done" is to go "straight to the top." I'll let you in on a little secret: when my boss gets a call from a member of the public, he either refers the caller back to me or asks me what he should respond or what I want the caller to know. In other words, while it may make you feel empowered to call "the boss," nine times out of ten it's the guy in the field calling the shots.
Give the folks at the park a call and find out what's up. You may actually be doing them a favor. And by the way, it's the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department, not the city.

- Trail UpdateBonelli Park-What has happened to Bonelli, aka Puddingstone? The whole place has been turned into one big four lane highway. The bridge crossing on the west side of the park near San Dimas Ave has gaping crevasses that are dangerous. Bonelli was a fun place at one time, in fact a good place to train, a couple of laps on the Bonelli rollercoaster is a workout. Send complaints to the Superintendent of Bonelli or the Director of the LA Parks Department before the damage and changes are irreparable.

- Trail UpdateBonelli Park-Bonelli Park is in pretty good shape as of this weekend. Not to muddy, although the trail along the went side of the lake is pretty bad. Most uphills seem to have been stripped of topsoil and are rocky and more technical than usual. Widow-maker is soft, slippery, and a little treacherous. Half mile hill is very rutted at the bottom (across the bridge). There are some ruts two to three feet wide and several feet deep. Ouch on a night ride!! Other than that there are patches of water and mud on the trail - not a problem - only adding to the dirty factor and ride enjoyment.

- Trail UpdateAs of 5-19-98, the trails/roads are in very good condition; with some of the single track being very s-i-n-g-l-e due to vegetation overgrowth (watch those bar ends); very little mud. I noticed the previous person indicated 0% single track....he/she must have stuck to the fire roads, cuz there's plenty of single track to be ridden. Ride safe today, so you can ride tomorrow!
